All Things Wedding: Bunting and what-not!

I am a HUGE fan of bunting. I think it's SO cute, and really useful for decorate just about any occasion! So I've decided to make my own bunting for the wedding. I'm not sure where exactly to use it yet, but there are loads of options - buffet tables, sweetheart table, the gazebo, dancing area, cake table, etc. It'll be purdy. :> So far, I've made about 35metres. I don't know if I'm going to need more, I still need to decide where I'm going to use it. Of course, I used the wedding colours, lilac and blue, and added a touch of pink. Here's a reminder of what kind of fabric I'm using:

And here's the bunting! It's my first ever sewing project, ever since my parents got me a sewing machine for Christmas. I'm really happy with the result. I know bunting's extremely easy to make, but I can't help being chuffed for doing such a good job! Of course, Adam helped out with cutting the triangles, bless him... he's always willing to help by doing the boring bits. :)

This is what the dining table looked like before I started. Don't be fooled. It looks more like the aftermath of WW3 now. I have GOT to start being a bit neater while doing my crafty-stuff.

So, that's one more thing I can cross off the list - bunting! If you're willing to try it out for yourself, here's a little break-down of what I did.

1) First, I cut up fabric triangles in the colours I needed: Lilac, floral, blue dotted, and pink. I only wanted to add a touch of pink, so I only made half the amount. I found that cutting them up with a guillotine was the easiest, neatest and quickest way to do it! I know a guillotine is meant to be used for paper and cardstock, but hey it did the trick! I think the size of the triangles turned out pretty good: 7inches across, 8inches down.

2) Then, I sewed up the triangles. get two triangles of the same colour, have the print-side facing each other, and sew the long edges. no need to sew the 7-inch part yet, that will be done later.

3) When you have a good number of triangles, fold them inside out, make sure you've got the corners out as well (I used a pencil), then iron them to even them out nicely.

4) Using the guillotine, trim the 7-inch edges of each triangle to take off any frayed bits or uneven edges.

5) Now sew the triangles to bias binding tape of a matching colour, keeping the triangles about 3 inches apart.

6) hang your kick-ass bunting somewhere nice!

All things wedding: Table numbers

Yay! I've managed to cross something off my wedding to-do list: Table numbers. And I believe they came out looking awesome if I may say so myself :)

I came across some small silver-coloured frames at the local pound store - 2 euros for a pack of two. bargain! Then I ordered some wooden letters off ebay (let me know if you need the link to the ebay shop)...I painted them light blue with acrylic paint and stuck them on to each frame's glass panel. I also stretched some pretty fabric over a piece of cardboard and placed them inside the frames for the letters to have a nice background which matches the theme. Viola!

As you can see, I also stuck on some flowers made of cardstock. I am using these flowers for other things such as confetti, favors, and invitations. This helps to keep the theme consistent throughout all the DIY I've been planning.

So, what do you think? I'd love to get your feedback. :)

I'm baaaack!!

I'm back, and I come bearing more wedding DIY! :)

But first, I'm just dying to show you our wedding venue. I think it's absolutely gorgeous, and PERFECT for the kind of wedding we're planning. This is the garden at the Kempinski Resort, San Lawrenz, Gozo.

See this circle of trees? That's going to be the dancing area, and all the trees are going to be lit up with pretty fairy lights!

The tables are going to be set on the grass around the dancing area. Below is a picture of the roofed area, that's were the bar and cocktail tables will be.

I am so glad we stumbled across this place. We weren't going to even consider this venue, assuming that it was going to be outrageously pricey since it's a 5-star hotel, but we were pleasantly surprised at their flexibility and great offers :)

All Things Wedding: tea bag envelopes

As part of our wedding favours, we're making personalised tea bags. I guess it symbolises Adam's obsession with tea :) ...and it's a favour which people can actually USE. To be honest I don't like those kind of favours which are just there to gather dust on a forgotten piece of furniture.

So, teabags. I'm using the ones with tags, so I can pull the tag off and stick a personalised one on instead. To make the personalised tags, I designed different types of round stickers, printed them out, and stuck them together on the teabag string, two at a time. These are a few designs I printed out:

Then I made tea bag envelopes. They were really easy, quick and fun to make! I used a template which I found online, and designed three different envelopes.

First I cut out the printed design
Then I folded along the lines - pretty straightforward!
....glued along the folds...
and voila! One tea bag envelope!

I used a different colour for each design - pink, purple and blue. I really hope our guests will enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them! :)
